Moment bystanders grab suspect after woman pushing a child in a buggy 'was repeatedly stabbed' in central London: Man, 54, is charged with attempted murder

This is the moment bystanders caught a an alleged knifeman yesterday after a woman was repeatedly stabbed on a busy London street. Brave members of the public chased the man after he stabbed a woman in her 30s who was pushing a buggy along Edgware Road in the city's west at around 9am. Witnesses described builders jumping out of a van and pedestrians running to the women's rescue and taking her to safety in a nearby M&S café, where she received medical treatment before being taken to hospital. And others intervened by allegedly throwing chairs and other objects to apprehend the attacker, who tried to flee the scene. Detectives today have charged Waleed Ali, 54, of no fixed address, with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place. Footage has emerged showing a man bloodied and dazed being detained after brave witnesses intervened. The man is seen with a gash to his forehead and the back of his head as he is lifted from the ground to a seated position by a police officer. Ali will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow. The woman was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her condition was assessed as not life-threatening. There are reports that she was pushing a buggy at the time of the attack, according to The Times. Source
