Denver gunman, 47, who killed five wrote novel using pseudonym about tattoo parlor rampage and ranted online about masculine supremacy: Police release footage of him on spree and say he 'targeted' victims 

The Denver gunman who shot and killed five people on Monday night, several of them connected to the tattoo industry, had self-published a novel in which a character with his name murders people at tattoo parlors as an act of revenge against the world. Lyndon McLeod, 47, a known extremist with psychiatric problems and violent material on his social media, was killed by police on Monday at the end of his rampage across Denver. rom 2018 to 2020 he self-published a series of novels online, under the pseudonym Roman McClay. One of the books features a character named Lyndon McLeod who opens fire on a tattoo parlor in downtown Denver. In the story, McLeod the character goes on a six-month killing rampage, killing 46 people who had wronged him throughout his life. One of his stories also featured a character who carried out a murder at an apartment complex - similar to the site of one of the shootings. His Instagram and Twitter accounts show he harbored misogynistic hatred, and reveled in alt-right conspiracy theories. McLeod quoted characters and lines from his books to comment on current events, such as a COVID misinformation meme on Twitter featuring Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft founder Bill Gates discussing 'an injectable nanoworm'.

He first killed two women working in a tattoo parlor, then shot dead a man in a home. He went to the site of his former business in downtown Denver, Flat Black Ink Corp - which is listed as the publisher of his novels - and opened fire, but no one was injured.McLeod crossed town to a second tattoo parlor, in the Lakewood area, and killed his fourth victim - walking calmly in to the store and opening fire, then driving off 10 seconds later. Finally he went to the Hyatt House hotel and killed a clerk, before being shot dead by police. McLeod, who lived in a shipping container up a mountain, glorifying in a life free of women and full of 'books, guns and meat', had Flat Black Ink declared bankrupt in 2017.His books, he said, were his 'art' and a creative outlet. On Amаzon, the first book in the three-part series, Sаnction, hаs dozens of five-stаr reviews, while others wаrn potentiаl reаders аbout the extreme violence in the book. One online review described the trilogy as 'an epic, visceral journey into the dark heart of every man broken by society.' Another reviewer said the characters 'give full vent to their sexism, racism, and every other -ism kept out of mainstream discourse,' according to The Denver Post. McLeod, in a 2020 interview on YouTube - now taken down - said the book was about 'our masculinity and the way we interact,' looking at religion, genetics and culture. He described it on Twitter, in an account dormant since June 2020, as: 'The book that philosophizes with a Jack-Hammer.' 'I tend to look at the world in threes. I'll look at the world currently, then the world below it and the world above it,' he said in the YouTube interview in March 2020. 'You have the terrestrial plane, then the sub level, then the atmosphere.' McLeod added: 'I consider myself an artist first, and then a man interested in ideas and culture second.' Their projects include the Goldman Sachs headquarters near Ground Zero, the Bank of America headquarters, condominiums and more. JEFF Bezos has been slammed after celebrating his Blue Origin space trip after the collapse of one of his Amazon warehouses, which left six dead. The billionaire took around 24 hours to publicly respond to the tragedy after the tornado hit the building in Edwardsville, Illinois, and trapped 100 workers inside on Friday. On Saturday morning, the Amazon founder made no mention of the deadly collapse when he went on social media praising a successful landing of one of his Blue Origin missions. “Happy crew this morning in the training center,” the billionaire wrote on Instagram along with a photo of “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan, a daughter of Apollo 14 astronaut Alan Shepard and four others. At least 50 are killed by tornadoes in Kentucky's deadliest storm in a century: Twisters rip through Mississippi Valley 'shredding' nursing home and destroying Amazon warehouse   

At least 50 people are thought to have been killed in Kentucky, and there are multiple fatalities at an Amazon distribution center in Illinois, after at least 24 tornadoes ripped across the South and Midwest of the US on Friday.  Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear estimated the toll would 'exceed 50' but could reach 100 after 'some of the worst tornado damage' the state has experienced 'in a long time'. 'This has been one of the toughest nights in Kentucky history and some areas have been hit in ways that is hard to put into words,' Beshear told a news conference early on Saturday. 'I fear that there are more than 50 dead in Kentucky... probably closer to somewhere between 70 and 100, it's devastating.' The governor added the damage was 'some of the worst we've seen in a long time' in the town of Mayfield, a small city of about 10,000 people in the far western part of Kentucky, where the Bluegrass State borders Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. 

Beshear said 'dozens' were believed killed in a Mayfield candle factory where 110 were working when the storm hit. The early casualty estimates suggest that the tragedy is the deadliest tornado strike in Kentucky in more than a century, on a scale last seen in 1917 when twisters killed 67 in the western tip of the state. One tornado among the dozens that struck is estimated to have a damage path of more than 200 miles, which would approach or exceed the all-time record. Beshear has declared a state of emergency and requested an immediate federal disaster declaration. A spokeswoman for the state's emergency management service said that rescue officials had not confirmed figures for deaths or injuries as of early Saturday. Elsewhere, in southern Illinois, authorities said at least two were dead and up to 50 people were trapped after a roof collapsed at an Amazon warehouse near St. Louis late on Friday, when tornadoes and strong storms blew through the area. At least two were killed and five were injured when a tornado shredded the roof of a nursing home in Monette in northern Arkansas and another person killed in Missouri. A further three people were killed in the severe weather in Tennessee, Dean Flener, spokesman for the state's Emergency Management Agency said. Source

Illinois: 'Mass casualty incident' after Amazon warehouse roof collapses 'with 100 staff working inside' 

Emergency crews in the US state of Illinois are responding to reports of injuries at an Amazon warehouse after the roof collapsed following bad weather. Footage from local TV stations showed dozens of emergency vehicles at the Amazon centre near Edwardsville, about 25 miles west of St Louis. Some 100 employees were believed to have been working the night shift at the time of the collapse, an official told local TV station KTVI-TV. It was not immediately clear if or how many people were hurt, but the Collinsville, Illinois, Emergency Management Agency called it a "mass casualty incident" on Facebook.The centre opened with two warehouses in 2016, with 1.5 million square feet of space, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. Mexican authorities say at least 49 people dead, 58 injured after truck crash   

A cargo truck jammed with people who appeared to be Central American migrants rolled over and crashed into a pedestrian bridge over on a highway in southern Mexico on Thursday, killing at least 49 people and injuring nearly five dozen others, authorities reported.  Luis Manuel Moreno, the head of the Chiapas state civil defense office, said a preliminary estimate listed 49 dead and 58 injured. He said about 21 of the injured had serious wounds and were taken to local hospitals.  The crash occurred on a highway leading toward the Chiapas state capital. Photos from the scene showed victims strewn across the pavement and inside the truck’s freight compartment.  Later, rescue workers arranged the dead in rows of white sheets, side by side, on the asphalt.  The victims appeared to be immigrants from Central America, though their nationalities had not yet been confirmed. Moreno reported that some of the survivors said they were from the neighboring country of Guatemala.  Sitting on the pavement beside the overturned trailer, survivor Celso Pacheco of Guatemala said the truck felt like it was speeding and then seemed to lose control under the weight of the migrants inside.  Pacheco said there were migrants from Guatemala and Honduras aboard and estimated there were eight to 10 young children. He said he was trying to reach the United States, but now he expected to be deported to Guatemala.  Rescue workers tried to excavate survivors from a pile of humanity in the flipped trailer, separating the injured from the dead. Dazed wounded stumbled among the wreckage.  Marco Antonio Sánchez, director of the Chiapas Firefighter Institute, said ambulances raced victims to three hospitals, carrying three to four injured each. When there weren’t enough ambulances they loaded them into pickup trucks, he said.    Source

98 DEAD

Sierra Leone explosion: Scores dead after Freetown oil tanker collision 

At least 98 people have died after a massive explosion when a fuel tanker collided with a lorry in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown. Fuel spilled before igniting and the resulting inferno engulfed bystanders and vehicles at a busy junction. Footage broadcast by local media outlets showed badly charred bodies in the streets surrounding the tanker. After visiting the scene, Vice-President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh said it was a "national disaster". He said that the injured would receive free medical treatment. Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr described seeing "harrowing" photos. Some 92 people are being treated in hospitals and health centres around Freetown, some of which are said to be overwhelmed. The explosion is believed to have happened at a junction outside the busy Choithram Supermarket in the densely populated Wellington suburb in the east of the city at around 22:00 GMT on Friday. Sierra Leone's National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) said the vehicles collided when the tanker was entering a nearby filling station to discharge its fuel. The drivers, noticing a leak, exited their the vehicles and warned people to stay away. The explosion occurred when people tried to collect the fuel, the NDMA said. Source

BULGARIA BUS CRASH

46 DEAD

Bulgaria: at least 46 killed in bus crash

At least 46 people, including 12 children, died early on Monday morning after a bus crashed on a motorway in Bulgaria. The bus, registered in north Macedonia, was travelling from Turkey to Macedonia when it crashed and caught fire some 40 km south of Sofia. Bulgarian Police chief Stanimir Stanev confirmed that there were 52 people on board. Of these, 7 survived and were hospitalised with severe burns.

The accident

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined. The bus overturned after hitting the guardrail, but it is not yet clear whether it caught fire before or after. Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani told reporters the coach party had been returning to the capital Skopje from a weekend holiday trip to the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev spoke to one of the survivors, who told him that passengers were sleeping when the sound of an explosion woke them u. "He and the other six survivors broke the windows of the bus and managed to escape and save themselves," Mr Zaev told Bulgarian media. Bulgaria's interim Prime Minister Stefan Yanev described the incident as "a huge tragedy".

At least 27 migrants killed attempting to cross the English channel 

France and Britain have vowed to step up cooperation to stop illegal crossings after at least 27 migrants died off the coast of Calais on Wednesday. The victims included a pregnant woman, three children whilst four other people are missing, presumed drowned. The accident is the worst tragedy of its kind in the Channel involving migrants trying to reach England by small boats. SH reports. The sinking of the inflatable dinghy off the coast of Calais comes as record numbers of migrants have attempted to cross the Channel in flimsy boats from France to Britain this year. It’s a perilous crossing as the narrow strait of water is the world’s busiest shipping lane and also has strong sea currents. The French authorities say five suspected human traffickers have been arrested on suspicion of being linked to Wednesday’s deadly sinking. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was shocked and appalled by the tragedy while French President Emmanuel Macron said France will not allow the Channel to become a cemetery. The two leaders spoke on the phone after the sinking and agreed on the urgency of stepping up joint efforts to prevent these deadly crossings. They said they needed to work closely with Belgium and the Netherlands as well as others across Europe. Macron and Johnson said the tragic loss of life was a stark reminder that it is vital to break the business model of the criminal gangs behind the crossings. But the two nations have also traded blame over this tragedy. The British government has once again accused France of not doing enough to stop the migrants from crossing over the Channel in the first place while the French Interior Ministry has criticised Britain’s less stringent immigration system that makes it easier for migrants with no legal papers to find work. Some observers say this was a tragedy that was all too predictable given the perilous nature of these Channel crossings and the rapid rise in the number of desperate migrants making the journey in flimsy boats. Over 25,000 people have reached the British coast in small boats this year which is more than three times the total for the whole of 2020. And there’s no likelihood of an early stop to this trend. Russia: Death toll in Siberian coal mine blast raised to 52 

MOSCOW (AP) — A devastating explosion in a Siberian coal mine Thursday left 52 miners and rescuers dead about 250 meters (820 feet) underground, Russian officials said. Hours after a methane gas explosion and fire filled the mine with toxic fumes, rescuers found 14 bodies but then were forced to halt the search for 38 others because of a buildup of methane and carbon monoxide gas from the fire. Another 239 people were rescued. The state Tass and RIA-Novosti news agencies cited emergency officials as saying that there was no chance of finding any more survivors in the Listvyazhnaya mine, in the Kemerovo region of southwestern Siberia. The Interfax news agency cited a representative of the regional administration who also put the death toll from Thursday's accident at 52, saying they died of carbon monoxide poisoning. It was the deadliest mine accident in Russia since 2010, when two methane explosions and a fire killed 91 people at the Raspadskaya mine in the same Kemerovo region. A total of 285 people were in the Listvyazhnaya mine early Thursday when the blast sent smoke that quickly filled the mine through the ventilation system. Rescuers led to the surface 239 miners, 49 of whom were injured, and found 11 bodies. Later in the day, six rescuers also died while searching for others trapped in a remote section of the mine, the news reports said. Regional officials declared three days of mourning. Source
