Two men and three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to the shooting of Sasha Johnson.
The Met said the five suspects - aged between 17 and 28 - were all arrested yesterday as part of a police operation by the force's Violence Suppression Unit and remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard from the Met's Specialist Crime Unit said: 'While the investigation remains in its early stages, these arrests show that progress is being made.'However, I would continue to appeal to those who may hold information about the events that led to Sasha receiving her horrific injuries, or about those responsible, to do the right thing and come forward and speak to police.' The first suspect - a 17-year-old man - was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply class A drugs after a proactive routine stop yesterday afternoon.
The Met say investigations led them to an address in Peckham where three others were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.
The fifth man – aged 25 – was arrested later that evening following a police pursuit of a car in Peckham. He was arrested on suspicion of affray and failing to stop for police.
All five have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.
Superintendent Kris Wright, from the Central South Command Unit, responsible for policing in Southwark and Lambeth said: 'These arrests are the result of instinctive local police work, combined with fast-time intelligence gathering, and shows the effectiveness of the various police teams in the Met working together. As protests broke out across the country in the name of Black Lives Matter, the group’s co-founder went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records.
Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37, also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes, The Post has learned. Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent.
The self-described Marxist last month purchased a $1.4 million home on a secluded road a short drive from Malibu in Los Angeles, according to a report. The 2,370-square-foot property features “soaring ceilings, skylights and plenty of windows” with canyon views. The Topanga Canyon homestead, which includes two houses on a quarter-acre, is just one of three homes Khan-Cullors owns in the Los Angeles area, public records show.
Some fellow activists were taken aback by the real estate revelations.
Hawk Newsome, the head of Black Lives Matter Greater New York City, which is not affiliated with Khan-Cullors’ Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, called for “an independent investigation” to find out how the global network spends its money. SOURCE
BLM co-founder says black homeownership helps fight ‘white supremacy’
Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors complained about racism in the housing market — saying black homeowners help “disrupt white supremacy.”
The self-confessed “trained Marxist” on Saturday shared to her Instagram page an NPR story addressing the “racist architecture of homeownership” — following her recent $3.2 million property-buying binge.
“Thank you @npr for highlighting the history of racism inside of the housing market and why Black homeownership has always been a way to disrupt white supremacy,” she wrote.
Last month, Khan-Cullors was ripped when property records showed that she had snagged four high-end homes for millions, with BLM Greater New York City calling for “an independent investigation.”
The 37-year-old activist did not directly address her own buying spree, which includes a $1.4 million home in an exclusive Los Angeles neighborhood where the vast majority of residents are reportedly white. SOURCE

Patrisse Khan-Cullors, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter, is stepping down as the organization's executive director after a dispute over her $3 million property holdings. Cullors, who has led the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation for nearly six years, made the announcement on Thursday, May 27.While she denounced a far-right smear campaign, she said that neither that nor recent criticism from other Black organizers influenced her decision to leave. According to The Associated Press, the 37-year-old campaigner is quitting to focus on other projects. One of them includes the release of her second book and a multi-year TV development agreement with Warner Bros, the Daily Mail reported. Her last day with the foundation is Friday."I've created the infrastructure and the support, and the necessary bones and foundation, so that I can leave," Cullors said. "It feels like the time is right." Monifa Bandele, a longtime BLM organizer and founder of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement in New York City, and Makani Themba, an early backer of the BLM movement and chief strategist at Higher Ground Change Strategies in Jackson, Mississippi, are joining the foundation as interim senior executives to help steer it in the near future.

Many people were left wondering what percentage of BLM donations went to social justice programs.She, however, claims that her resignation has been in the works for over a year and has nothing to do with the personal attacks she has been subjected to.
